Yes, you can install over old flooring. Ecoloc can be installed over virtually any existing substrate including timber, concrete, resin, quarry tiles, terrazzo and linoleum as well as damp floors, subfloors with no damp proof membrane. (any moisture will evaporate up through the joints). However, carpet should be removed in advance. The subfloor should be clean, flat and firm. Ecoloc provides an easy, rapid solution to covering damaged and contaminated floors and is an extremely resilient, ergonomic flooring system.
What floor preparation is required before installing Ecoloc?
Normally it is sufficient to simply sweep. Clear the work area of free-standing equipment, and ensure that the floor has been swept clean of any loose debris and any high points removed. Any major cracks or holes should be filled prior to installing the tiles. Long-related uneven floors are not a problem because the tiles will adapt themselves to the contour of the floor surface.
How do I install Ecoloc tiles?
Ecoloc tiles are easy and fast to install. Begin by laying tiles in the middle of the room and work uniformly to the walls. All you need to do is align the joint edges, clip the tiles together and finish by using a rubber mallet to secure the interlocks. In loose lay cases the tiles are not glued down they can easily be altered, added to or reconfigured at any time. If you cut a fixed point (wall, machine, etc.) approach, the tiles so that a 0.6 cm (¼ inch) wide spacing at this fixed point appears. This is to leave room for expansion caused by temperature fluctuations or slight contractions. The expansion may be hindered in any way. Use access ramps at entrance points to reduce trip hazards and aid vehicle movement. Download our installation manual or view the installation video to see how easy it really is!
Are corners and edges available?
Ecoloc is available with a unique corners and edges system (not available in Apollo Mini range). A mat area can be made as large or as small as required. Available in all standard colours.
Is an inside corner available?
Inside corners can be made simply by cutting two edges (ramps) at a 45-degree angle.
Do I need adhesive for installing the floor?
Under normal conditions Ecoloc Tiles are not glued to the substrate and can, therefore, be loosely laid (floating). For applications with high dynamic point loads, or in areas subject to strong, direct sunlight or high-temperature fluctuations, the use of an adhesive may be required. We recommend in this case, a suitable adhesive vinyl. Contact our technical department for further information. See also the technical specifications and instructions.
Are the tiles resistant to compression marks?
Generally yes. Ecoloc Tiles are extremely resistant to compression marks caused by such items as car jacks, engine hoists, cabinets, tables etc. We also produce ‘Heavey Duty’ tiles specifically for industrial use, perfect for forklifts, pallet trucks and practically any type of heavy machinery. If you would like to know more about Ecoloc maximum load weight, contact our customer service team on +44 (0) 2892 667 264.
Can this product be installed outdoors?
Ecoloc Tiles are exclusively for indoor use, with the exception of the Lockmat Open, which is designed for both indoor and outdoor use (perfect for areas that experience excessive moisture and liquid overflow).
What is the best way to clean the tiles?
Clean tiles with a damp mop or for larger areas use a cleaning machine (a rotary scrubber drier with PVC brush and vacuum). Dilute a small amount of our Ecoloc Floor Cleaner detergent (3 to 5%) for PVC floors into water. For Stubborn stains (tyre marks, oil, grease) use a stain remover. Remove stains immediately if possible since certain types of stains settle into the flooring as they age and can then only be removed with difficulty or are impossible to remove completely. Please refer to the Ecoloc maintenance instructions.
Do the tiles require a sealer?
No, but the initial treatment provides the surface with a care film which protects the floor, reduces dirt resilience and facilitates regular cleaning. If Ecoloc Tiles are installed in warehouses and industrial halls etc. Initial treatment is not sensible with respect to the type of wear and tear to be expected.
Can Ecoloc be installed in areas subject to extreme hot or cold temperatures?
Different temperatures affect PVC tiles. In cold conditions the tiles become less pliable and in hotter environments they become more flexible and subject to expansion. Please note where tiles are in direct exposure to sunlight or intense heat we recommend gluing them down. The temperatures range is between -15 C & 70 C degrees. At very low temperatures the hard PVC can become brittle and can fracture with heavy impact. High very high temperature the PVC stabilizers can degrade.
Can water get underneath the tiles?
The interlocking joints of Ecoloc are a tight fit but they cannot be classed as waterproof, however, any ingress of moisture would evaporate up through the joints. If you do not want that liquids spill under the floor the Ecoloc floor must be glued down to the subfloor.
Would there be a smell if water got under the tiles?
In the case of PVC, the polymer itself does not readily provide a source of nutrients for bacteria and fungi and so acts as a biocide against microorganisms which would otherwise make the water smell.
Are Ecoloc Tiles resistant to plasticiser migration by vehicle tires?
Staining may occur from car or motorcycle tires, although it is uncommon. This is the consequence of a chemical reaction between plasticizers that are used in many rubber products and in the PVC of the floor. The stain is yellow/brown and on dark grey or black floor tiles is not usually visible. However, this happens approximately 1 in 600 garages.
There are special sealants which counteract this problem. For example the PU Anticolor by the company CC-Dr. Schutz GmbH, or any other manufacturer with the same product.
To ensure that this problem does not occur, you can lay a single tile under the tires. Our colour recommendation for car or motorcycle garages would be dark grey or black where the vehicles are stationary and long-standing.
Are there any anti-static and dissipative and Ecoloc products?
Yes. Our patented ESD flooring is available, e.g. for PC workstations, control rooms. (on request)
